Photos and videos showing Ferran Torres, the Barcelona forward, spending a night out in Ibiza with Ilia Topuria, the mixed martial arts fighter, spread widely on social media this week, reigniting interest in a friendship the striker has spoken about publicly in the past.
The footage circulated on platforms including X and Reddit and showed the pair talking, dancing and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere together. Thousands of users reacted to the clips, helping them spread quickly online.
Topuria is a Spanish-Georgian mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC. His growing profile in Spain has made any public appearance alongside high-profile athletes such as Torres a talking point on social media.

Several posts claimed the two athletes were at a venue aimed at LGBTQ+ clientele, though that has not been confirmed by any official source. Neither Torres nor Topuria has commented on the venue or on the theories that followed the images' spread.
Llorente's Comments on Similar Images
The renewed attention came days after Marcos Llorente, the Atletico Madrid midfielder, addressed speculation over separate images that showed him hugging and kissing Torres on the cheek. Llorente responded to the criticism by saying there was nothing wrong with two men showing affection toward one another, dismissing the backlash the pictures had drawn.
A Friendship That Reshaped Torres's Mentality
Beyond the online reaction, the relationship between Torres and Topuria is not new. The Barcelona forward has said publicly that the mixed martial arts champion played an important part in a change of mindset he went through in recent years, a shift he has described as adopting a "shark mentality."
In an interview with content creator Jordi Wild, Torres recalled the impact of meeting Topuria before one of his fights. He said he connected with him from the first moment, and that Topuria told him beforehand that his opponent would not get past the first round. Torres said that moment made him think he wanted to become like Topuria, and that he went into the experience as one version of himself and came out as another.
Overhauling His Training Routine
Following that experience, Torres said he decided to overhaul his preparation routine completely. He said he asked his fitness coach for a second daily training session, asked his nutritionist to help him lose three kilograms, and arranged with his physiotherapist to extend his recovery time.
Torres said discipline and consistency were what kept a player at the elite level, adding that motivation only lasted a few days and was not enough on its own to reach a major goal. He said none of the changes had been negotiable.
