The mother and sister of Aristotelis, the Greek helicopter pilot who died when the Bell-type helicopter he was flying crashed while fighting a wildfire near Psatha last Sunday, are taking the case to the courts.
According to the office of lawyer Vasso Pantazi, who represents the two women, their aim is to establish the exact circumstances that led to his death.
Legal complaint filed
In a statement, the law firm said the mother and sister had instructed it to take all necessary legal steps before the Athens Misdemeanors Prosecutor, through the Organized Crime Directorate, to determine the exact circumstances behind what the firm called the unexpected death of their son and brother, and to see those responsible punished.
The firm said that within hours it would file a declaration to support the prosecution of anyone whose act or omission contributed to the killing of one of the country's most valiant pilots, who it said had sacrificed himself over several days trying to save lives and property.
Helicopter was fighting fire near Porto Germeno
The statement said the pilot had been operating in the area of Porto Germeno as part of the effort to fight the wildfire. The firm referred to him throughout its statement as a hero pilot.
