Greek actor Tasos Chalkias gave new statements after losing his house in Porto Germeno to a destructive wildfire, telling OPEN television's main news bulletin that the fire also cost him the chance to leave the property to his children.
Standing outside the burned house, Chalkias said he had spent fifty-four years there, growing from a small child into an old man. He said his son was born in the house and played there for the first time, and that his daughter had the same experience. He said he did not know what to feel or say first.
A pride he says he has lost
Chalkias said he had once felt proud that he would be able to leave the property to his children. He described himself as the poor son of a worker who, without seeking anyone's pity, had managed to build something in his life and leave something behind. He said that pride was gone, because he could no longer pass the house on to his son and daughter.
Chalkias said his friend Grigoris, who lived just above him, also lost his house in the fire, and that another friend, Michalis, lost his house nearby as well. He said roughly two hundred privately owned homes were destroyed in the fire, along with three or four small hotels and a couple of businesses that people had relied on for their livelihoods.

On August 2, 2026, Chalkias had given his first statements after the destruction of his house, in comments headlined "The blood I shed went to waste." His son had posted about the house burning down the day before, on August 1, 2026.
