Tesla chief Elon Musk plans to spend between $100 million and $120 million to support Republican candidates in the November midterm elections. According to a July 30 article in The New York Times, Musk will commit the funds through America PAC, a political action committee he founded.
The spending campaign will begin in August and focus on Senate races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, and Ohio. Discussions are also underway regarding elections in North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas. America PAC additionally plans to invest in House of Representatives elections in California, Wisconsin, and Washington state.
Officials from America PAC have presented the budget to several Republican organisations, including MAGA Inc. The political action committee intends to coordinate field operations with conservative groups such as Americans for Prosperity and Sentinel Action Fund.
Political Spending and Strategy
The New York Times reported that Musk previously invested nearly $300 million in the 2024 presidential campaign. However, after a candidate he supported lost a Wisconsin judicial election in April 2025, Musk told Bloomberg that he planned to do much less political spending in the future and felt he had done enough.
Musk later opposed Donald Trump after stepping down from his role at DOGE. He suggested creating a third party called the America Party, though the project never materialized. Relations between the two men have since eased, enabling renewed financial backing for Republican candidates.
In an interview with The Economist, also cited by The New York Times, Musk said he thought he had gotten a bit too involved in politics and had gotten carried away. Despite those comments, America PAC expects to maintain a major role in the midterm elections.
