Producer Roberto Gómez Fernández has confirmed that a live-action movie exploring the origin of classic television superhero El Chapulín Colorado is in development in Mexico.
Gómez Fernández, who is the son of late comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, announced the project during the red carpet event at the Canacine Awards this week. Speaking in his capacity as a producer and screenwriter, he detailed that the production is currently in its preparatory stages and will soon be ready to enter filming. He noted that the project represents their roots and confirmed that active work is underway to bring it to production.
Addressing the creative direction of the film, Gómez Fernández clarified that the feature will be produced in live-action, explicitly ruling out an animated format. He emphasized that the narrative will explore the early beginnings of the hero famous for his vinyl antennas and squeaky mallet. Regarding the lead actor who will take on the role, the producer stated that the performer chosen will be someone worthy of portraying the iconic character.
