Donald Trump Secretly Swapped Air Force One in Turkey

United States President Donald Trump secretly transferred between aircraft aboard an airport catering truck in Ankara, Turkey, to evade security threats, according to reports.

While official White House statements maintained that the president departed a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in Ankara aboard Air Force One bound for a British military base, a report published by the Washington Post revealed a different sequence of events.

On July 8, Trump announced on social media that he would travel aboard the older Air Force One aircraft, citing its specialized defensive countermeasure systems over a newer Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar. Although commentators initially dismissed the statement as false news, events on the runway in Turkey aligned with the plan.

Trump initially boarded the primary blue and white Boeing 747 Air Force One at Ankara in full view of television cameras. Minutes later, officials executed a clandestine transfer to a smaller US Air Force Boeing 757, designated as a C-32A, which was parked nearby on the tarmac.

To complete the move undetected, Trump and several close aides stepped into an airport supply truck positioned on the side opposite the principal entrance of Air Force One. The vehicle, which is standard equipment for delivering inflight meals and beverages, was driven by an individual wearing a suit.

Reporters traveling aboard the presidential aircraft were instructed to pull down their window shades during the maneuver. The supply truck then drove across the tarmac to the waiting Boeing 757, which also carried the official United States of America marking.

Operators elevated the truck cargo container to align with an entry door of the Boeing 757, allowing Trump to enter the cabin. The driver subsequently left the truck and boarded the aircraft before the jet took off for Royal Air Force Station Mildenhall, located approximately 100 kilometres north of London in the United Kingdom.

Clandestine Transfer on the Runway

Upon landing at RAF Mildenhall, the Boeing 757 taxied close to the original Boeing 747 Air Force One. Trump then re-boarded the larger aircraft incognito. While the exact method used for his return to the main plane remains undisclosed, television crews filmed the president walking down the exterior stairs of the blue and white 747 upon arrival.

The White House has not confirmed the secret aircraft swap. However, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung acknowledged the security concerns, explaining that enemies of the United States actively target the president and that security teams utilize every available mechanism to mitigate those threats.

Naval Defense and Executive Infrastructure

In a separate defense directive, Trump reversed previous naval policy by ordering the military to reinstate steam-powered catapults on American aircraft carriers. The technological shift back to steam systems is expected to cost several billion dollars.

Questions regarding aircraft security have also impacted the Boeing 747 offered to the administration by Qatar. Trump had previously praised the aircraft for providing an unprecedented level of luxury, but the jet was subsequently returned to its hangar after security concerns prompted demands for maximum system enhancements.

Infrastructure developments at the executive residence have faced judicial hurdles as well. Federal courts recently issued an order halting construction on a proposed 400 million dollar ballroom at the White House.

At the same time, Trump directed the construction of a new White House helipad featuring a giant presidential seal carved from solid granite.
