China has evacuated more than one million people after powerful Typhoon Dolphin struck Zhejiang province, according to Euronews.
Euronews reported that officials declared a highest-level state of emergency as the storm disrupted travel and forced widespread evacuations. In Wenzhou, authorities evacuated over 900,000 residents and opened more than 1,000 temporary shelters.
Landfall in Zhejiang Province
China's National Meteorological Center reported that Typhoon Dolphin moved onto the coast near Yuhuan city in Zhejiang province at about 5:30 p.m. local time. Wind speeds near the center of the cyclone exceeded 150 kilometers per hour at landfall. Meteorologists expect 250 to 500 millimeters of rainfall across central and eastern Zhejiang province.
The storm led to the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights. About 1,400 flights were canceled across Shanghai's two main airports, while Hangzhou airport canceled 270 flights. Authorities also closed tourist destinations and suspended ferry operations due to the typhoon.
