Peruvian dancer and comic actress Angye Zapata has been filmed on holiday in Colombia with Jorge Novoa Pereda, a 23-year-old man recently arrested by police as the suspected leader of an extortion gang.
Footage broadcast on the television programme Magaly TV, la firme showed the couple sharing affectionate moments during a four-day trip to Medellin. The broadcast included photographs of Zapata, a performer on the entertainment show El reventonazo de la Chola, taking photos on a boat and posing on an inflatable water float.
Extortion raid and prosecutor release
Novoa Pereda, who is also known by the alias Pocoyo, was arrested on June 19 during a police raid on a building in the Brena district of Lima. Authorities alleged that he was leading a criminal organization known as Los Terribles de Brena, which has been under investigation for extortion.
During the Brena intervention, police officers seized 31 mobile phones that investigators suspected were used to extort victims. When questioned by officers during the operation, Novoa Pereda stated that he worked as a digital content creator.
Despite the evidence gathered during the raid, the prosecutor's office released Novoa Pereda and the other individuals detained during the operation several days later. Shortly after his release from custody, Novoa Pereda left Peru to travel to Colombia alongside Zapata.
Previous violent crime and Callao sightings
The getaway to Colombia follows earlier tragedy in Zapata's personal life. Less than a year ago, the father of her daughter was shot and killed at the entrance of a residential building complex in the Bellavista district of Callao.
Zapata had also previously generated public discussion after being spotted and filmed during an unexpected meeting with the musician Chechito in Callao.
