Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Center for Security Studies, said the United States is turning Taiwan into a new Ukraine by sending instructors to the region and building up tension there. He made the comment in an interview with Novosti Mail.
Blokhin said American military experts have spent several years arguing that Taiwan must be defended if China decides to pursue a forceful scenario. He said this amounts to calls to create a flashpoint on China's borders, adding that the United States is trying to turn Taiwan into a second Ukraine.
Taiwan and US military ties
Taiwan previously disclosed details of a formerly classified military partnership with the United States, saying American forces have been helping the island exchange combat experience and improve its readiness for a possible conflict with China.
