Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has publicly rejected claims made by pediatrician Maria Karistianou regarding quantum medicine, stating that no such specialization exists scientifically.
Writing on social media following television appearances by both figures on September 20, 2026, Georgiadis accused Karistianou of conflating applications of quantum physics to justify unscientific medical claims made to her patients.
The health minister stated that Karistianou had attempted to defend what he described as lies regarding quantum medical specialization during a morning broadcast on Open TV. He added that she had also raised past allegations concerning nano-vests and statements he never made in an effort to divert attention from her medical assertions.
Georgiadis concluded his public response by writing that Greek society had believed a woman who claims to be a quantum pediatrician, stating that this situation spoke for itself.
Response to health ministry criticisms
Karistianou had addressed the topic of quantum physics and its medical applications during an interview connected to the investigation into the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis. When journalists informed her that Georgiadis was speaking on state broadcaster ERT and calling her a quantum doctor, she responded directly to his position.
The pediatrician stated that Georgiadis should account from his institutional position for the chaos surrounding matters under his authority. She added that half-learning was the enemy of truth and medical science, arguing that quantum physics was an established field that had transformed technology.
Claims on quantum technology and medicine
Defending the relevance of quantum science, Karistianou pointed to quantum computing, subsoil and air sensors, and everyday medical equipment. She stated that lasers were entirely based on quantum mechanics and that magnetic resonance angiography, or MRA, relied on proton quantum spin, adding that science should not be rejected due to ministerial ignorance.
Karistianou further argued that quantum technology represented the future of medicine. She claimed that future quantum MRA scanners would offer 100,000 times greater clarity in detecting cancer cells while also delivering treatment, asserting that existing quantum equipment already aids diagnosis and molecular-level research.
Dispute over nano-vests and background
Turning her criticism back on the minister, Karistianou noted that Georgiadis was not a medical doctor and questioned his appointment to the health ministry. She cited his past work in book sales and alleged that he had previously sold nano-vests advertised as curing illnesses, asking why he had not sought state health insurance coverage for them through the National Organisation for the Provision of Health Services if he believed in their efficacy.
When asked about describing herself as a holistic pediatrician on her website, Karistianou explained that she used the term to denote a comprehensive approach to child health. She stated that her method focused on preventive care, such as boosting children's immune systems at the start of each year to help them avoid winter illnesses, rather than relying solely on pharmaceutical prescriptions.
