Far-right lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella was sworn in on Friday as the president of Colombia for the 2026-2030 term during an inauguration ceremony held in a university auditorium in the western city of Cali.

De la Espriella swore by God and promised the people that he would faithfully fulfill the Constitution and the laws of Colombia.

Congress President Honorio Henriquez administered the oath of office and immediately placed the presidential sash on him.

Presidential Election
De la Espriella was elected in June after winning by a narrow margin against the candidate supported by former president Gustavo Petro.

The new Colombian president is supported by United States President Donald Trump.
