A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured on Tuesday morning at a summer camp in Heraklion, Crete, after being struck in the head, according to reports.
Officials said a wooden beam came loose and hit the child in the head, causing serious injury. The circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.
Greece's National Emergency Aid Center (EKAV) was notified immediately and an ambulance rushed to the scene to pick up the boy. He was first taken to Venizeleio Hospital, which was on duty at the time.
After initial examinations and emergency medical care, doctors decided the boy needed to be transferred to the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI), where he remains hospitalized.

Despite the severity of the injury, reports so far indicate the child's life is not in danger.
