More than 61,800 passengers departed from Athens-area ports on Saturday, August 1, marking the peak of Greece's summer holiday exodus.
From Piraeus, 23 vessels carried 29,966 passengers to island destinations. The Argosaronic lines handled 57 routes with 11,586 travelers, while Rafina port operated 15 sailings with 11,324 passengers bound mainly for the Cyclades. Lavrio logged 14 departures carrying 8,976 passengers, bringing the four-port total to 61,852.
The Coast Guard moved to enhanced readiness, with additional order and traffic measures put in place to help passengers and vehicles board safely.
High traffic is expected to continue Sunday, with Piraeus scheduled for 23 sailings to the Aegean islands and Crete, Rafina for 15, and Lavrio for 13. The Argosaronic lines plan 55 departures, 31 by high-speed craft and 24 by conventional ferries.
Port authorities urged passengers to arrive early and follow Coast Guard instructions, warning that road congestion around port facilities could cause delays for those traveling with vehicles.
