Zelensky: UAE Can Help Secure Black Sea Trade Routes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United Arab Emirates could help Ukraine secure maritime trade routes in the Black Sea, following a phone call with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Zelensky said the two leaders discussed how the Emirates could assist Ukraine in Europe, particularly in the Black Sea region, covering food security, the safety of sea lanes and expanding capabilities to protect lives. He also thanked the UAE for what he described as full understanding of the situation and support for Ukraine’s peace efforts.

Zelensky added that Ukraine had significantly supported the security of its partners in the Gulf during the current year.

Following an overnight Russian attack, Zelensky said Patriot missiles exist in the world and that the only meaningful response from partners was additional real assistance, urging them to also impose further sanctions on Russia.

Overnight Strike

Russia launched a mass attack on Ukraine on the night of August 1, firing 35 rockets and 185 strike drones, with the main blow falling on the Kyiv region, according to UNIAN. Air defenses destroyed 156 targets, but 26 ballistic and four anti-ship missiles struck their targets, causing destruction across five districts of the capital. Nine people were killed, more than 30 were wounded, five ambulances were destroyed and dozens of vehicles were damaged.
