Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that negotiators from US President Donald Trump's team will hold meetings in Moscow and Kyiv in the coming days to discuss resolving the ongoing conflict.
Zelensky stated on Telegram that tentative dates have already been established for the visits. He confirmed that representatives of the American president have assured Ukrainian officials that meetings will take place in both capitals.
The Ukrainian president added that officials in Kyiv maintain constant contact with the American negotiation team as preparations for the talks proceed.
Zelensky, who took office as President of Ukraine in May 2019, has routinely utilized Telegram as his primary public channel to broadcast official announcements and diplomatic updates throughout the conflict.
The proposed diplomatic mission involves shuttle diplomacy between Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and Moscow, the capital and seat of power of the Russian Federation. Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, has consistently advocated for active mediation to seek a negotiated end to the fighting.
Direct Dialogue and International Mediation
The announcement follows previous remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the framework for peace talks. Putin stated that Moscow and Kyiv must primarily negotiate directly with one another, asserting that third nations can only assist the process rather than dictate terms.
Putin specifically noted that this condition applies equally to the United States and the People's Republic of China.
Putin, who has governed Russia as president or prime minister for more than two decades, has maintained that any settlement must address core Russian interests. The People's Republic of China, governed from Beijing, has sought to position itself as a mediator in the dispute, releasing a twelve-point peace proposal and hosting international envoys.
As both sides await the arrival of the American delegation, Kyiv is preparing for the incoming negotiators while awaiting further operational details regarding the corresponding meetings scheduled in Moscow.
