Police in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk have launched a tactical raid on an apartment to rescue a local woman who was taken hostage by her partner.
The suspect was detained during the operation after he wounded the woman with a knife, according to the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The victim initiated the emergency police response by calling law enforcement officers herself from inside the property. She told police that her cohabitant was forcibly detaining her in her own apartment while threatening her with two knives.
Police officers dispatched immediately to the address and began conducting negotiations with the offender. After some time passed, law enforcement officers took the operational decision to carry out a physical storming of the apartment to save the woman.
Hostage rescue in Sakhalin
During the tactical assault, officers breached the flat and apprehended the perpetrator, who was found to be in an intoxicated state. The man managed to inflict a knife wound on the hostage before he was detained. Emergency medical services transferred the victim to a local hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
