VK Video found that 25 percent of Russians watch cat videos to help combat anxiety, according to an online survey of 1,500 residents across Russia.

The survey results were detailed in a VKontakte press release provided to Lenta.ru. The research showed that 55 percent of respondents send cat videos to other users at least occasionally. Among those who share the clips, 35 percent do so for no specific reason, while 34 percent send them to distract others from bad news and stress.

Viewing Habits and Age Demographics

Respondents cited several reasons for watching cat content, with 27 percent seeking a laugh and 22 percent looking to boost their mood. Another 21 percent watch for simple and light content, 16 percent to relax, and 14 percent to take a break from work and household chores.

VKontakte reported that an adult audience primarily drives current interest in cat videos, with over 80 percent of viewers aged over 25. The company stated that cat clips have become a daily digital habit for adult users, offering a quick way to switch between work tasks or reset their emotional state after a busy day.
