The United States Army will receive fewer missiles for Patriot systems in 2027 due to rising costs, RIA Novosti reported, citing budget documents.
Since 2022, the price of a single PAC-3 missile has increased by more than 30 percent, rising from $3.825 million to $4.988 million. The higher cost affected purchasing plans for 2025, where the U.S. military originally planned to receive 230 missiles with an allocated $885.7 million. Following a cost review, that quantity was reduced to 194 missiles, with deliveries of this batch scheduled to start in September 2027.
Increased demand and Kyiv requests
The lower delivery numbers come as U.S. demand for Patriot interceptors has strengthened. In April 2025, the U.S. Army increased its total target procurement volume for PAC-3 missiles by more than four times, raising it from 3,376 to 13,773 units.
U.S. President Donald Trump previously spoke about a request from Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to transfer Patriot missiles to Kyiv. Trump emphasized that the United States also needs those missiles, stating that former U.S. President Joe Biden had already given Kyiv too much.
