The National Bank of Ukraine has weakened the official hryvnia exchange rate to 44.65 against the US dollar and 51.99 against the euro for Thursday.

The National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rate of the hryvnia at 44.65 to the US dollar for Thursday, September 10, weakening the national currency by 18 kopecks compared to the previous indicator.

Data published on the website of the central bank regulator showed the hryvnia also lost ground against the euro, dropping by 35 kopecks to 51.99 hryvnias per euro for Thursday.

Interbank and commercial market trading

On the interbank foreign exchange market of Ukraine, trading quotes for the hryvnia against the dollar settled at 44.67 to 44.70 hryvnias per dollar by 16:00. Quotes for the euro on the interbank market stood at 52.03 to 52.04 hryvnias per euro.

Commercial banks across Ukraine registered higher exchange rates on September 9. The average dollar rate in Ukrainian banks increased by 9 kopecks to 44.87 hryvnias per dollar for purchase, while customers could sell American currency at an average rate of 44.39 hryvnias per dollar.

The average euro rate in Ukrainian commercial banks also rose by 9 kopecks on September 9 to reach 52.14 hryvnias per euro. The average rate for selling European currency to banks stood at 51.50 hryvnias per euro.

At PrivatBank, the dollar exchange rate increased by 20 kopecks to 44.80 hryvnias per dollar, with customer sales priced at 44.20 hryvnias per dollar. The euro rate at PrivatBank went up by 30 kopecks to 52.25 hryvnias per euro, while customers could sell the European currency at 51.25 hryvnias per unit.

Financial regulator and market operations

The National Bank of Ukraine serves as the central bank of the country, responsible for implementing monetary policy and maintaining currency stability. The central regulator publishes official benchmark rates daily that serve as reference points for accounting and legal transactions.

Commercial banking networks across the country adjust retail foreign exchange rates daily based on supply and market demand, while PrivatBank operates as the largest commercial bank in Ukraine.

The interbank market functions as the primary platform for wholesale currency exchange between commercial banks before official daily fixes are announced by the regulator.
