Tyumen Man Jailed for 13 Years Over Abuse of Stepson

A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to 13 years in a strict regime penal colony for sexually abusing his sleeping ten-year-old stepson in Tyumen Oblast, Russia.

The court also ordered the convict to pay 350,000 rubles in compensation for moral harm to the young victim, regional court officials announced.

The press service of the joint judicial system of Tyumen Oblast reported the verdict to Russian news outlet Lenta.ru. Judges found the defendant guilty under Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which covers violent sexual acts committed against a victim under the age of 14 by taking advantage of their helpless state.

Court findings and police response

According to judicial findings established during the trial, the 34-year-old lived with his wife, her ten-year-old son from a previous marriage, and two younger children shared by the couple. On the day of the assault, the mother was in another room putting their one-year-old child to sleep while the older boy slept in his bedroom.

Judges established that the defendant, who was intoxicated at the time, entered his stepson's room and committed acts of a sexual nature against the sleeping child. The boy began crying, which alerted his mother in the adjacent room.

Hearing her son's cries, the mother rushed into the bedroom and intervened, stopping her husband's actions. She then called police officers to the home to report the crime.

Fearing legal consequences, the offender fled the scene before officers arrived. Police later located and arrested the man, and he was held in custody prior to trial.

Legal framework and penal conditions

Tyumen Oblast is a federal subject of Russia situated in Western Siberia, with regional courts administering justice under Russian federal criminal law. Article 132 of the criminal code carries mandatory severe imprisonment for sexual offenses against young children.

A sentence in a strict regime penal colony requires convicts to serve their time under high-security conditions, featuring heightened surveillance, restricted movement, and stringent daily confinement measures reserved for serious crimes.
