Danila Poperechny opens up about fatherhood struggles

Russian stand-up comedian Danila Poperechny has spoken publicly about the intense physical exhaustion and emotional stress he is facing while caring for his newborn daughter in the United States.

Speaking in a video broadcast on the online platform YouTube, the comedian admitted that looking after his infant daughter Michelle has left him severely sleep deprived and struggling to manage the basic routines of newborn care. He explained that his daughter cries frequently, including throughout the night, making his first weeks of fatherhood exceptionally demanding.

Poperechny described feeling deep frustration and personal self-doubt, sharing that he often feels like an inadequate parent when struggling to execute basic caregiving duties. He complained that the persistent sleep deprivation over many consecutive days is immensely difficult to compare to any other challenge he has encountered.

Despite the exhausting conditions, Poperechny noted that difficult days alternate with more manageable periods when Michelle sleeps longer and cries less often. He emphasized that seeing his daughter smile and observing her daily development brings him immense happiness amidst the ongoing tiredness.

Life in the United States and childbirth costs

Poperechny and his wife, lifestyle blogger Polina Chistyakova, welcomed their daughter Michelle on July 27, 2026, following news during the summer that the couple had become parents. The comedian had previously disclosed that the medical expenses for his wife's delivery in the United States totaled around two thousand dollars, which equaled approximately 171 thousand rubles at current exchange rates.

Poperechny is a prominent figure in Russian stand-up comedy and digital media, having built a wide audience through video blogs, satirical commentary, and live concert tours across Russia and international venues. Chistyakova is a recognized social media creator and blogger who publishes lifestyle content under the online pseudonym Poposha.

Foreign agent status in Russia

The comedian relocated to the United States following the onset of heightened political tension and restrictions in Russia. The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation subsequently included Poperechny in its official register of foreign agents, a statutory list created under Russian legislation to monitor individuals and entities accused of receiving foreign support or participating in political activities.

The Russian foreign agent law, which was first enacted in 2012 and significantly expanded in subsequent years, mandates that designated individuals attach explicit warning labels to all published text, audio, and video content. Foreign agents must also submit comprehensive financial disclosures and quarterly audit reports to state authorities, facing administrative fines or criminal penalties for non-compliance.

Poperechny continues to publish video blogs and comedy material online while residing in the United States with his family as he and Chistyakova navigate the daily responsibilities of raising their newborn daughter.
