Nearly half of Peru’s exports to the United States will be affected by new tariffs of between 10% and 12.5% announced by President Donald Trump, imposed amid a US investigation into goods produced with forced labour.
According to the Centre for Global Business and Economic Research of the Exporters Association, known as CIEN-ADEX, the measure covers Peruvian shipments worth $5.336 billion, representing 49.7% of all goods Peru exported to the US market during 2025. In total, the new tariff will affect 2,166 of the 2,772 tariff lines sold to the United States.
Products now subject to the duty include blueberries, grapes, asparagus, mandarins, cotton clothing such as shirts and sweaters, gold rope-style necklaces and chains, prepared artichokes, fish oil, organic quinoa, frozen mahi-mahi fillets, onions, and frozen strawberries.
CIEN-ADEX also warned that products covered under Section 232 of US legislation, amounting to $499.2 million in shipments, face the risk of even higher tariffs on national security grounds. That group includes refined copper plates, sheets, bars, rods, tyres, and various copper wire types.
Not all Peruvian exports will be affected. The trade group said 45.6% of shipments to the United States, equivalent to $4.9 billion, will not face additional tariffs. Those products include copper cathodes, gold, tin, coffee, molybdenum, phosphates, avocados, cocoa, and mangoes.
The US opened its investigation in March 2026 to determine whether any of 60 assessed economies, including Peru, were violating or failing to enforce laws on the importation of goods made wholly or partly with forced labour.
