Two concerts celebrating the 50th anniversary of Luís Represas' career will go ahead as planned in 2027, despite the Portuguese musician's death last month, promoter Sons em Trânsito has confirmed.
The shows, scheduled for April 10 and April 17, will take place at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon and the Coliseu do Porto respectively. The concerts were a project Represas held dear, and the promoter said they will proceed as he wished.
Represas died on July 22 at the age of 69, following a prolonged illness.
Trovante founder pledges to honor his memory
João Gil, a founding member of Os Trovante, the band that helped build much of Represas' success and popularity, told Correio da Manhã that the band would be there to celebrate the life of an exceptional artist.
Gil said Luís would like, would still like, to know they are doing this for him. He said they would celebrate his life, the legacy he left behind of voice and songs. Gil added that Represas was not only Trovante, noting that he also had an important solo career, and that the concerts would also serve as a memory of that work.
Promoter says work must not be forgotten
In a statement, Sons em Trânsito said it did not want to let a singular body of work that changed and shaped the paths of Portuguese music be silenced or fall into forgetfulness. The promoter said the concerts are happening because of the wishes of Represas' friends, those close to him, companions on his journey or part of it, his partners, and those who found in him a source of inspiration.
Manuel Faria to lead artistic direction
The concerts will have artistic direction from Manuel Faria, another founding member of Os Trovante. Gil said they would all be there and that it would be good. He said there would be many people, those who loved Luís and the public that always followed him, and called it a beautiful tribute.
Tickets already purchased remain valid
Tickets already bought for the two shows remain valid, the promoter confirmed. Those who prefer a refund can request one, with September 5 set as the deadline for returns.
