Authorities in Illinois are searching for 36-year-old Todd Sabatini and his 22-month-old son Theo after they vanished during a walk in McHenry on Saturday.
Sabatini and Theo left their McHenry home at around 12 p.m. for what family described as a 'normal activity.' Relatives contacted the McHenry Police Department when the pair failed to return by 4 p.m., prompting a search. Family members said the prolonged trip was 'unusual behavior' for Sabatini, who did not 'have the necessary provisions for an extended excursion with Theo,' PEOPLE reports. The father and son were reported missing from their home on Saturday night.
Officers later discovered the toddler's stroller abandoned behind a local business. Investigators also obtained security footage showing Sabatini with his son at a Jewel-Osco supermarket, 'attempting to make contact with someone within Zion Lutheran Church.' Sabatini also spoke with someone at a local Taco Bell, though it is unclear what he may have been discussing with locals.
Rideshare trip and police department visit
Sabatini obtained a rideshare and traveled to Wisconsin, visiting the Greenfield Police Department to speak with an officer. He left the police station on foot with his son at around 2 p.m.
'As this behavior is unusual, the McHenry Police Department is actively working with the Greenfield Police Department to check the welfare of Todd and Theo,' officers said. By Sunday evening, McHenry police stated they had 'reliable information putting Todd and Theo in Milwaukee in the last couple of hours.'
'We are actively conducting searches and follow-up investigation efforts in that area,' the McHenry Police Department posted on Facebook, adding that both father and son are listed as missing persons. Sabatini and Theo were last spotted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Descriptions and contact details
Sabatini was last seen wearing a blue and black flannel shirt, a gray tank top, jeans and Converse sneakers. Investigators noted that he previously had facial hair but is now clean shaven. Facebook activity showed Sabatini active three days before vanishing, posting an image cradling Theo captioned with a heart emoji.
Theo was last seen wearing a blue shirt and dark-colored shorts. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is asked to contact the McHenry Police Department at (815) 363-2130.
