Television owners can significantly improve screen picture quality within minutes by altering default factory settings rather than purchasing a new device, news outlet Blikk reported.
Manufacturers frequently ship new televisions with energy saving or retail demonstration modes enabled to satisfy energy efficiency regulations. Experts said these default modes restrict display capabilities, making pictures look worse than intended.
According to industry experts, Filmmaker Mode is the most accurate factory picture setting available on modern television sets. The UHD Alliance, a trade group representing major film studios and consumer electronics manufacturers, launched the standard in 2020.
Filmmaker Mode automatically disables motion smoothing, sharpening enhancements, and noise reduction features. It also adjusts the display white balance to the D65 standard, a daylight reference point used by Hollywood colorists to achieve precise color calibration.
Because of the D65 color temperature, television screens may initially appear unusually yellowish to viewers. However, experts noted that human eyes adapt to the warmer color balance within a few hours.
Once viewers adjust to the realistic color temperature, standard settings like Standard or Vivid become recognizable as producing artificially bright and unnatural pictures.
Energy saving modes and brand settings
Manufacturers often deliver televisions running in Eco or Standard modes out of the box. Eco mode automatically lowers screen brightness to cut power consumption, which degrades image clarity in brightly lit rooms.
While Filmmaker Mode is available across nearly all major TV brands, initial factory configurations differ. LG sets often default to Standard or AI Picture modes, while Samsung models frequently ship with Intelligent Mode activated, which uses artificial intelligence to adjust display settings.
Experts emphasized that reconfiguring a television requires no specialized technical knowledge or expensive hardware. Disabling energy saving features and selecting a natural picture profile takes only a few minutes and produces immediate results, making colors brighter and images more natural without buying a new screen.
Display technologies and previous advice
News agency UNIAN previously reported that new television owners should immediately disable retail demonstration mode, which manufacturers activate specifically for store displays.
UNIAN also previously highlighted color calibration steps beneficial across various screen panel types. These adjustments apply to modern OLED and Micro RGB screens as well as older QLED and Mini LED televisions.
