Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached $1.665 billion at the global box office, leading summer cinema sales alongside Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day leads global box office chart

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has held the top spot at the global box office for two consecutive weekends, grossing 1.665 billion dollars worldwide.

The Marvel release accumulated 655 million dollars in North America and 1.010 billion dollars in international markets, according to data from box office tracking website Box Office Mojo.

During its second weekend in North American theaters, the film added 145 million dollars to its total. The superhero picture has held the record as the highest-grossing film of 2026 for the past week.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the story picks up immediately after the events of the previous installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Neither his girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya, nor his best friend Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, remembers anything that happened.

Peter Parker must contend with loneliness while continuing his efforts to protect New York City from emerging threats. International sales have provided a major boost for the production, led by China, where the film has accumulated 186 million dollars.

Cretton previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel Studios. The Spider-Man franchise is based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Box office performance of The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan's epic film The Odyssey remained in second place after four weeks in theaters. It has now become the highest-grossing movie of the director's career, reaching 1.104 billion dollars worldwide.

The production has grossed 461 million dollars in North America, including 31.5 million dollars taken in across Canada and the United States over the latest weekend.

Based on the ancient Greek epic poem, the film continues to draw large crowds without showing signs of slowing down. IMAX theater tickets in North America are sold out through mid-September.

The IMAX format alone has generated 289 million dollars in box office revenue. The movie was recorded entirely using IMAX cameras, and as of this weekend it became the highest-grossing IMAX release in history.

The total surpassed the previous IMAX record of 271 million dollars set in the region by Avatar. The Odyssey has not yet premiered in key international territories such as China, which represents the second-largest movie market in the world.

Nolan is an Oscar-winning filmmaker known for directing Oppenheimer, Inception, and The Dark Knight. The original poem of The Odyssey is attributed to Homer and details the journey of Odysseus following the Trojan War.

New weekend releases and top five list

Facing strong competition from the two leading blockbusters, two new films entered the North American weekend chart with more modest earnings.

The romantic drama One Night Only, starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro, debuted in third place with 5.7 million dollars. The comedy sequel Super Troopers 3 opened in fourth place with 4 million dollars.

Toy Story 5 rounded out the top five, adding 3.9 million dollars in the North American market over the weekend. The animated feature has reached a cumulative worldwide total of 1.093 billion dollars.

Toy Story 5 is the fifth main installment in Pixar Animation Studios' flagship franchise, which began with the original animated film in 1995.
