Shirley Arica announced on Wednesday, August 26, that she will not campaign for Samahara Lobaton in the reality show La prision de Destino 2.
Speaking on the podcast Sin mas que decir, Arica stated that she ended her friendship with Lobaton following a betrayal involving a social outing in Peru, though she confirmed she has since forgiven her former friend.
During the podcast appearance, cohost Israel Dreyfus asked Arica about Lobaton's performance in the reality series based in Miami, Florida. Arica revealed that the two women are no longer friends after Lobaton went out with Argentine actor Pablo Heredia and his former partner, Peruvian actress Alessandra Fuller.
Arica, a model and reality television personality known in Peru as Chica realidad, also commented on career ethics during the broadcast. She asserted that she would never knock on doors to solicit work, claiming that Lobaton had taken that path to secure her position in the Miami competition.
Fallout over social outing
Arica, who previously won the Peruvian reality show La granja VIP Peru, described how deeply the fallout affected her. She explained that she cared for Lobaton and had shared many personal secrets with her during their friendship.
She noted that opening up to people usually takes considerable time for her, but she had felt an immediate connection and built a strong bond with Lobaton in a short period.
Prior to entering the house for La prision de Destino 2 in Miami, Lobaton reached out via text message to apologize for making Arica feel bad with her behavior. Lobaton expressed that she holds great affection for Arica and hoped they could resolve their conflict once she returns to Peru.
Apology by text message
Lobaton was required to send a text message because Arica had blocked her on all social media platforms. Arica recently underwent emergency surgery following complications with her breast implants after experiencing increased pain.
Arica clarified that she accepted the apology because she felt it was sincere. She replied to Lobaton's message, stating that they would find a way to resume their friendship when Lobaton returns home to Peru.
However, Arica firmly refused to use her public platform to help Lobaton stay in the Miami competition. She declared that she will not carry out any campaign or issue public statements calling for viewers to vote for Lobaton.
Arica admitted she was uncertain whether Lobaton's text apology was completely genuine or prompted by a desire for public backing in the reality show. She emphasized that any true reconciliation must take place in private, behind four walls, rather than as part of a television broadcast.
Refusal to campaign
Despite her refusal to support Lobaton's campaign, Arica maintained that she still holds affection for her former friend. She added that Lobaton knows she loves her very much, and expressed her hope that Lobaton does well and survives the rigors of the reality show.
Lobaton, the daughter of Peruvian media figure Melissa Klug, is currently competing in La prision de Destino 2 alongside her ex-partner Youna. The cohabitation reality show brings contestants together under continuous surveillance in Miami, Florida.
Arica's appearance on the podcast hosted by Israel Dreyfus marks one of her first public interviews following her recent emergency medical procedure in Peru.
