Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan are scheduled to sign a joint defense cooperation agreement on Friday in Jeddah amid rising tensions in the Middle East. A source close to the Saudi military told Agence France-Presse about the upcoming deal under condition of anonymity.
The Saudi military source said the joint agreement had been under discussion for a long time, but recent developments in the region accelerated the process.
High-Level Meeting in Jeddah
The signing is expected to take place during a meeting in Jeddah. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the event.
The joint defense move comes during a period of heightened tensions in the Middle East, as regional powers act to strengthen their military and defense partnerships.
