Sara Barradas returns to SIC to star in Destino Maior

Actress Sara Barradas has returned to Portuguese television station SIC to star in the network's upcoming autumn soap opera Destino Maior.

The 35 year old actress takes on her first starring soap opera role for the channel in a project designed to protect SIC's position as the leading fiction broadcaster in Portugal during the crucial autumn viewing period.

The production marks a return to the channel where Barradas made minor television appearances two decades ago in projects including Mini Malucos do Riso and Zero em Comportamento. Her move to Destino Maior also represents a departure from rival broadcaster TVI.

Speaking about her new role, Barradas said the work had proven very demanding because she felt a deep responsibility not to disappoint expectations. She explained that she was mindful of avoiding viewer fatigue with her voice or image, aiming instead to bring multiple nuances and clear definition to her character.

Network transition and production team

Barradas noted that while she always strives to deliver her best performance in every commitment, she prefers to remain detached from network ratings battles. She acknowledged that moving between major broadcasters required adapting to new daily working routines, though she described the overall transition as seamless.

She added that she had received a warm welcome at SIC, pointing out that she had previously worked with almost the entire production team assembled for the new series. Because of those existing professional relationships, she characterized her arrival at the studio as straightforward and comfortable.

Broadcasting context and Portuguese television fiction

SIC, or Sociedade Independente de Comunicação, is one of Portugal's major free to air television networks. Established in 1992 as the country's first private station, the channel competes directly with TVI for viewership dominance in prime time drama and serial fiction.

The annual autumn season, known in European television broadcasting as the rentrée, is traditionally the period when Portuguese networks launch flagship entertainment programming and novelas to secure viewer loyalty for the winter months ahead.
