Samsung is developing a new model of over-ear wireless headphones codenamed Galaxy H1 that could launch in early 2027 to compete with Apple's AirPods Max. The upcoming device signals a major return to full-sized consumer audio gear for the South Korean technology giant after more than a decade of focusing almost exclusively on in-ear earbuds.
References to the Galaxy H1 were discovered inside the code of Samsung's Galaxy Wearable companion application, according to a report by tech publication SamMobile. Text strings within the application software were accompanied by graphical illustrations depicting a classic over-ear headband and earcup design.
The Galaxy Wearable app is Samsung's official mobile software used to configure and control wireless accessories on Android devices. If the new model reaches mass production, it will mark Samsung's first entry in the full-sized headphone market since 2015, when the company introduced its Level On wired and wireless audio models.
Leaked technical specifications and features
Preliminary technical specifications leaked from software sources indicate that the Galaxy H1 headphones will feature Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, Samsung's proprietary SSC UHQ audio codec, and active noise cancellation. The device is also expected to include a transparency mode that allows ambient environmental sounds to pass through to the user.
Bluetooth 6.0 is the next-generation short-range wireless standard designed to deliver improved audio bandwidth, lower latency, and precise location sensing.
