Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have crashed Marvel Studios' presentation at the D23 2026 fan convention by pitching themselves for roles in Avengers: Doomsday.

Reynolds published a comedic video on his social media accounts showing Jackman pleading with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to include Deadpool and Wolverine in the upcoming superhero production.

The clip was screened during Marvel's live presentation at D23 2026, the annual Disney fan convention. Actors Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell had taken the stage moments earlier to reveal initial details about the project.

Appearing in a pre-recorded video, Jackman adopted the irreverent style that marked the actors' recent team-up. He asked Feige without prompt whether the studio required extra help filling out the ensemble cast, offering to persuade Reynolds to sign on as well.

The staged nature of the plea became obvious when Reynolds started giving instructions from behind the camera. The segment ended with Reynolds shouting at his co-star to stick to the agreed script.

Reynolds later posted the video publicly on his X account. He wrote that he does not condone leaked footage related to Deadpool, attaching a security hashtag to the post.

Feige kept the running gag going by turning down the request during the presentation. The exchange continued a persistent joke between the actors and the studio, framing Deadpool and Wolverine as uninvited guests trying to gatecrash Marvel's cinematic plans.

Marvel Cinematic Universe casting rumours

Although the D23 video presented their inclusion as an unsolicited request, rumours regarding Reynolds and Jackman joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday have circulated for months. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed either actor for the film.

Reynolds and Jackman recently starred together as Wade Wilson and Logan in Marvel's 2024 blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. Their characters were originally produced under 21st Century Fox before Disney acquired the studio assets, bringing the X-Men characters into the main Marvel franchise.

Feige has led Marvel Studios since 2007, overseeing the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe media franchise. The studio frequently uses the D23 fan convention to announce new casting decisions, trailers and release dates to international audiences.

Avengers Doomsday release date and directors

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. The film is directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Marvel tentpoles including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The storyline will focus on superhero teams from across multiple parallel dimensions coming together to combat Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr., who previously portrayed Tony Stark and Iron Man across a decade of Marvel films, returns to the franchise to play the villain.

Evans, who played Steve Rogers and Captain America alongside Downey, and Atwell, who played Agent Peggy Carter, were among the central stars on stage at the D23 presentation. Whether Deadpool and Wolverine will join them in the final fight remains unconfirmed, though Reynolds and Jackman can now claim they submitted their application.
