Peruvian broadcaster Ric La Torre has gone public with his reasons for leaving Q’ Bochinche’, the show he co-hosted with Samuel Suarez on +QTV, the streaming channel run by Maria Pia Copello. In an interview with Jhon Cano on the podcast Show Pe, La Torre described internal tensions that shaped his time on the project.
La Torre said differences with production staff, content restrictions, and the way guests were handled made him uncomfortable enough to walk away when his contract came up for renewal.
A Producer He Never Clicked With
One of his sharpest criticisms was aimed at producer Abneer Robles, who joined the channel after Peter Fajardo’s departure. La Torre said the two never connected, and that if he had the choice he would never work anywhere Robles was involved.
Banned Topics and Selective Access
La Torre also said certain subjects were off-limits at the channel, including the reality programme La Granja VIP Peru. He noted that when the team obtained audio related to a car accident involving former beauty queen Laura Spoya, who had been working under Robles on another production at the time of the crash, they were suddenly allowed to cover La Granja but were still blocked from using the Spoya recordings. He said the timing struck him as suspicious.
Despite those constraints, he said Q’ Bochinche’ posted record numbers within the channel, with an interview featuring Pamela Franco becoming its most-watched segment. He added that guests were not paid to appear, with one exception: Pamela Lopez.
A ‘Whitewash’ Interview Was the Breaking Point
La Torre said his discomfort peaked when he watched how an interview with Christian Dominguez was handled on the channel’s main show, Sin Mas Que Decir. He described the segment as a whitewash. About a month before his contract ended, he decided not to renew. He said he later entered talks about staying on but the conditions he put forward were not accepted.
La Torre acknowledged that staff did have freedom to voice opinions, but said he felt the channel protected certain entertainment figures. He said there was freedom of expression, but that certain personalities were shielded.
