Peruvian actor Pietro Sibille has spoken out about his 30-year struggle with severe alcohol and drug addiction, revealing that he underwent three separate stays in a rehabilitation center before achieving long-term sobriety.
The actor, who recently made a public reappearance after undergoing a dramatic physical transformation that included losing more than 10 kilograms, disclosed that his addiction cost him numerous acting roles, personal relationships, and financial stability over three decades.
Speaking in a candid interview on the Lexismanía channel, Sibille explained that he reached the absolute bottom of his addiction while completely intoxicated, eventually deciding that he wanted to live rather than die from his condition.
Sibille described his battle with substance abuse as an exhausting and painful experience spanning 30 years. He acknowledged that he did not possess a true, conscious desire to quit drinking until his first formal admission into a rehabilitation facility.
The actor characterized alcoholism as an unmanageable and incurable disease. He emphasized that addiction cannot be cured permanently, but must instead be managed and controlled continuously through abstinence.
He recalled believing 10 or 20 years ago that he could handle his drinking on his own. However, he ultimately came to terms with the fact that addiction is entirely uncontrollable for those affected by it.
Impact on career, finances and personal life
Sibille's prolonged struggle with alcohol created significant turmoil in his personal and professional life, including conflicts with former girlfriends and a hiatus from acting that lasted nearly three years.
The actor disclosed that his addiction caused many people to distance themselves from him. Over the years, he lost several romantic relationships, multiple job opportunities, and substantial sums of money due to the high cost of sustaining his addiction.
He added that the most painful toll was losing the trust of film directors, industry colleagues, and close friends, as well as losing respect as an actor at one point in his career.
Sibille is a prominent figure in Peruvian television, film, and theater, well known for his role in the acclaimed action production La Gran Sangre: Ojo por Ojo. The popular series and its subsequent film adaptations became cultural touchstones in Peru during the 2000s.

Rehabilitation milestones and new relationship
After two prior attempts at treatment, Sibille entered a rehabilitation center for a third time, which he described as happily being the definitive stay. Since completing that program, he has remained completely sober, refraining from alcohol and all other legal or illegal drugs.
Sibille confirmed that he will mark three years of full, continuous sobriety next February.
Alongside his physical recovery and weight loss, the actor has also found love again with fellow Peruvian performer Carmela Tamayo.
