A four-bedroom home featuring a built-in fireman's pole has gone on the market near Scarborough Beach in Perth, Western Australia.
The unusual property connects an upstairs loft retreat directly to the main ground-floor living area via the vertical pole.
Realmark selling agent Adam Iles said the distinctive feature has drawn immediate interest from prospective buyers visiting the property.
"The fireman's pole is obviously the feature that gets people talking and it's been great watching people walk in, spot it and immediately want to know if they can actually use it," Mr Iles told the Daily Mail.
Perth is the capital of Western Australia, situated along the Indian Ocean coast. Scarborough Beach, located in Perth's northern coastal suburbs, is one of the city's main beachfront destinations, renowned for its white sands, ocean amphitheatre, and coastal dining precinct. Realmark is a major real estate agency network operating throughout Western Australia.
Original design feature
Unlike recent viral property gimmicks added to attract short-term publicity, the pole was incorporated into the home's original design when it was built in 2002.
The home was constructed by Plunkett Homes, a long-established Western Australian residential builder founded in 1903.
"We don't know the story behind exactly why the original owners chose to incorporate it, which adds a bit of mystery to it, but it's certainly not something that's been added as a recent novelty," Mr Iles said.
"It's a legitimate, fully functional fireman's pole built into the home and connects the upper level directly with the living area below."
Social media reaction
To demonstrate how the feature works, Mr Iles filmed himself sliding down the pole and published the clip on social media.
He set the video to the theme song from the classic television series Hawaii Five-O, a police drama theme composed by American musician Morton Stevens in 1968.
Mr Iles said he was surprised by how rapidly the social media post gained traction among viewers.
"It's had plenty of attention through the social media post. I had a bit of fun with the video and the Hawaii Five-O theme and it's definitely been one of those properties people remember after seeing it."
Interior layout and features
Behind its suburban façade featuring a classic brick exterior and white picket fence, the residence offers more interior space than appears from the front street line.
"It's tucked away from the street and has a lot more space than people initially expect," Mr Iles said. "It has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, multiple living areas and some great upgrades including the natural marri timber flooring, fully zoned ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning and solar panels."
Marri timber comes from Corymbia calophylla, a native hardwood tree unique to the south-west region of Western Australia, prized in architecture for its high density and striking natural dark gum veins.
The layout features a formal lounge room and a master bedroom suite equipped with exterior roller shutters, a walk-in wardrobe, and an ensuite bathroom featuring a Roman bath and shower.
A Roman bath is a traditional deep soaking tub design inspired by classical bathing architecture, integrated into modern master bathroom suites.
Kitchen and outdoor space
At the heart of the home is a contemporary kitchen fitted with appliances from German manufacturer Miele.
The kitchen centres around a powered island bench that serves as a breakfast bar for informal family dining.
Outside, the home includes a tropical-style entertaining area featuring greenery alongside low-maintenance artificial turf.
"It would suit a young family, a professional couple or anyone who likes a home with some personality," Mr Iles said. "You're close to the beach and everything Scarborough offers, but the home feels surprisingly private."
Market history and valuation
The home is currently offered for sale without a listed asking price.
Property sales records indicate that the residence last sold in July 2014 for $685,000.
Current market estimates place the value of the Scarborough property at approximately $1.3 million.
