Pedri, the Spanish footballer known formally as Pedro González López, has spoken publicly for the first time about months of online speculation linking him romantically to his FC Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres, telling followers to stop inventing things.
The comment came during an interview recorded several weeks ago by content creator Iker Ruiz, in which Pedri appeared alongside Dani Olmo, his teammate on the Spanish national team. The pair took part in a viral game called "guess the player," in which they had to identify footballers from sequences of emojis.

Ferran Torres comes up in the game
When Ferran Torres, nicknamed "the Shark," came up in the game, the conversation took an unexpected turn. Ruiz told Pedri he constantly came across videos pairing the two players online. Pedri laughed and said it happens to him all day.
Ruiz then asked Pedri directly what he thought of people who ship him with Torres and speculate that the two are in a relationship. Pedri responded with humor, saying people should stop inventing things.
Social media reacts
The comment quickly spread across social media, drawing divided reactions from users on X and TikTok. Some pushed back, saying they were not inventing anything and were simply commenting on what they saw, with one noting that Pedri had chosen to sit next to Torres rather than his girlfriend during the interview. Others called it the ship of the moment, while some described the pair as being like family.
