Film director Nikita Mikhalkov will take on the lead role in an upcoming feature-length film, Russian state news agency TASS reported.
The veteran filmmaker told reporters that fans of his work would soon see him star in a new project, although details regarding the production remain undisclosed.
Mikhalkov did not reveal the title or genre of the upcoming movie. He also refrained from identifying the co-stars or production crew who worked alongside him on set.
The announcement marks a return to major acting roles for Mikhalkov, whose most recent screen participation was as the narrator for the feature film Batya 2. Ded.

In addition to his landmark achievements as a director, Mikhalkov has built an extensive acting portfolio over a career lasting more than five decades, accumulating several dozen performances in major film productions.
Among his most famous acting performances was his portrayal of Sir Henry Baskerville in the celebrated Soviet television adaptation The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: The Hound of the Baskervilles. He also starred in acclaimed Soviet feature films including Station for Two and A Cruel Romance, both directed by Eldar Ryazanov.
Mikhalkov is widely regarded as one of Russia's most influential cultural figures. He achieved international acclaim after winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for his 1994 historical drama Burnt by the Sun.

Before making his announcement regarding the new film role, Mikhalkov delivered remarks on religious harmony during a public appearance in regional Russia.
Speaking at the International Buddhist Forum in Tuva, Mikhalkov stated that Buddhists and Muslims share a close spiritual alignment with Orthodox Christians.
The republic of Tuva, situated in southern Siberia along the Mongolian border, is one of Russia's primary Buddhist regions, where Tibetan Buddhist traditions are widely practiced alongside indigenous cultural customs.
