Actor Nick Nolte made a rare public appearance on Tuesday, September 8, attending the 83rd Venice International Film Festival for the premiere of director Casey Affleck's new feature film Company.
The 85-year-old actor co-stars in the project and walked the festival red carpet in Italy alongside Affleck, 28-year-old actress Caylee Cowan, and remaining members of the cast.
Nolte, who was named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive in 1992, has made very few public appearances in recent years. He was photographed posing for camera crews both individually and with his fellow cast members, wearing a button-up grey shirt and black trousers.
The Venice International Film Festival, held annually on the Lido in Venice, Italy, is the world's oldest film festival and ranks among the global film industry's most prominent showcases alongside Cannes and Berlin. Nolte explained that stepping into such a role is fundamentally a matter of preparation and allowing sufficient time to absorb the material. He said that an actor takes the story into their hands and begins preparing for it, noting that when fortunate, that preparation coincides with filming to produce spontaneous creative moments that could not be created otherwise.
He added that working with a good director plays a crucial role in that process. Nolte stated that a skilled director recognizes an actor's timing, refrains from pushing or imposing demands, and offers subtle guidance so that both can discover how to approach the role together.

The storyline of Company unfolds through a series of distinct characters and historical time periods.
According to the film's official synopsis, the narrative begins when a mysterious woman named Evelyn arrives uninvited at a holiday gathering and recounts the story of Tom, an elderly hermit who rescues an actress stranded during a blizzard in Colorado in 1953.
Nolte has maintained a steady screen presence despite his infrequent public outings, appearing in four films released over the past two years. His recent movie credits include The Golden Voice, Die My Love, and Crime 101.
