British actress Minnie Driver suffered a neck sprain after surviving a very serious car crash on a country road in central France. The 56-year-old performer posted a video to Instagram on Thursday, August 6, lying in bed with a neck brace to announce she was back home in London.
Driver had spent several weeks in France filming the sixth and final season of the Netflix series Emily in Paris. Throughout the summer, she shared humorous updates about her daily life in France with her social media followers before sharing news of the collision.
She explained that the accident occurred a few days earlier while she was travelling with her friend Ben. Driver said another vehicle was driving very fast and failed to stop at an intersection, causing a head-on collision. She added that it was her first car accident and emphasized that the crash was not their fault.
Collision survival and vehicle safety
Despite the severity of the crash, both passengers managed to crawl out of the damaged vehicle alive. Driver praised the design of their small Kia, saying its 360-degree airbags saved their lives and kept the car from crushing them. She said she felt deep gratitude to be alive, despite being in shock and crying constantly as she recovers.
Finding humor in the situation, the actress joked about the pun in her surname and suggested she should temporarily rename herself Kia Driver. She warmly thanked the manufacturer, clarifying that her praise was not a sponsored advertisement. The end of her Instagram video featured footage of the heavily damaged vehicle to demonstrate the impact of the crash.
Roadside help and upcoming projects
In her post, Driver expressed gratitude to a passing van driver who stopped to assist them on the road before ambulances arrived. She also ironized about another driver who slowed down to look at the crash before driving away without helping.
