Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has described her breakup with Miami Heat basketball player Klay Thompson as very difficult, confessing in an interview with InStyle magazine that she was losing herself while trying to fit into his life.
The 31-year-old Grammy Award winner ended her relationship with Thompson in April 2026 after accusing the NBA star of infidelity, having previously told People magazine that core values of trust, loyalty, and respect had been violated.
The couple first became close in the summer of 2025 and made their official red carpet debut together in July of that year. However, their dynamic deteriorated by April 2026, leading the musician to publicly announce that she was prioritizing herself with peace and a clear mind.
Reflecting on relationship struggles
Speaking to InStyle, Megan Thee Stallion explained that she spent the majority of her relationship with Thompson attempting to force together pieces that did not fit. She recalled feeling like she was losing herself during that period and said she is currently focused on rediscovering who she is.
The rapper emphasized that disrespect is entirely unacceptable to her and that she refuses to hide her true self or stop working. She stressed that she will always remain Megan Thee Stallion, demanding that any partner treat her with respect and gratitude.
Reflecting on the emotional toll of the split, she noted that despite doing her best to navigate the situation, the experience left her feeling as though she had been passed through a washer and dryer alongside tin cans, shovels, and a cactus.

Expectations for future partners
Looking ahead, Megan Thee Stallion expressed hope that future partners will understand her busy life and demanding career, noting that she has no desire to remain at home 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
She explained that she expects an equal partnership built on mutual understanding rather than shrinking herself or standing behind any man. She added that she will never sit in the back seat for anything and now understands what she wants in a partner, what she will tolerate, and what she will not tolerate.
She emphasized that if a prospective partner cannot accept those boundaries, both individuals should respectfully part ways.
Coping with infidelity
The musician also shared her perspective on dealing with infidelity in a relationship, explaining that she now realizes unfaithfulness is not something a person should take personally. She remarked that being cheated on does not make someone less attractive or a less good person, even if it leaves them wondering why they were not enough.
She further reflected on spiritual guidance during times of personal upheaval, observing that what is meant for a person will always find its way. She added that feeling constantly uncomfortable or on edge is a signal from God that a person does not belong in that situation.
