Spain's National Police arrested a 59-year-old man in Marbella on suspicion of killing a woman in a gender violence case, according to police sources cited by Efe.
The killing happened on Monday on Calle Castilla, in the San Pedro Alcántara area of Marbella, in Málaga province. Police received the emergency call at 4:15 p.m.
Police sources confirmed the detention of the suspected perpetrator and said the investigation remains open. The woman died in what police described as a suspected episode of gender violence.
Second Andalusian killing in weeks
The woman's death came just days after authorities confirmed a separate gender-based killing of another woman in Benahavís, also in Málaga province, on July 21. That case brought the number of women killed by partners or former partners in Spain so far this year to 36, the worst toll since 2019.
According to figures from Spain's Ministry of Equality, Andalusia is the Spanish region with the highest number of gender-based killings recorded so far in 2026.
