Spain’s Low Festival will relocate from Benidorm to Torrevieja after 16 years, remaining within the province of Alicante in the Vega Baja area that borders Murcia.
Torrevieja, where 123 nationalities live side by side, sees its population climb from 113,000 registered residents to 450,000 during August.
The festival move is part of an active summer music season in Alicante. Indie band Viva Suecia recently played the Área 12 venue in Rabasa, filling it with confetti and white smoke.
Frontman Rafa Val, who is from Murcia like the rest of the band, told the crowd that Alicante people were the ones who knew how to party. The group is credited with channeling the frustration of young people who feel they lack opportunities and navigate economic uncertainty.
When asked how they keep success from going to their heads, the band said that on Sundays after a concert they go home and do the laundry.
