The Teatro Nacional D. Maria II (TNDM) in Lisbon published its new ticket price table on Friday in the Diário da República, Portugal's official gazette, with prices ranging from 10 euros for the second balcony to 18 euros for the stalls, according to the Lusa news agency.
The theatre has been closed since February 2023 for renovation work and is due to reopen on September 18. The price table, which will run until September 2027, is approved annually by the TNDM board of directors and submitted for approval to the government minister responsible for culture.
Ticket price breakdown
Under the new table, seats in the first balcony cost 14 euros. Second balcony seats cost 13 euros in the Sala Estúdio and 10 euros in the Sala Garrett and the Salão Nobre.
Individual box seats in the first and second balcony of the Sala Garrett cost 10 euros. The theatre is also offering an "Experiência Tribuna de Honra" package, giving eight people access for a total of 300 euros, an average of 37.5 euros per person.
Discounts and free tickets
People over 65, groups of more than 10, families of up to two adults with children under 12, and performing arts professionals qualify for a 25% discount.
A 50% discount applies to young people up to age 30, the unemployed and people with specific needs, whose accompanying companion gets in free. School groups that book in advance for performances and theatre visits get free entry, while guided tours cost 10 euros.
Special access and partnerships
The theatre is also introducing a "suspended ticket" costing 10 euros, bought at the box office and valid for any show, intended for people supported by organisations that partner with the TNDM on the scheme.
Students and teachers of performing arts and theatre studies, whether from schools or working professionals, can buy tickets for four euros 30 minutes before a performance starts, subject to room availability on the day. TNDM partner organisations will receive discounts of between 10% and 50%.
The decree states that prices and discounts are subject to room availability and the quotas set for each session. It adds that the theatre may exclude certain shows or initiatives run in partnership, hosted productions, or sessions with specific commercial terms from particular discounts, provided that any such exclusion is announced before tickets go on sale.

The Teatro Nacional D. Maria II is Portugal's national theatre, housed in a historic building on Rossio square in central Lisbon. It has been closed for a major requalification project since February 2023.
