Lambayeque recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, August 7, marking one of the hottest winter days in the region, according to the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru. The peak reading was registered at the Pasabar station in the district of Olmos.
The agency, known as Senamhi, reported that the figure represented an unusually intense heat episode for August, a month when cooler conditions typically prevail along the northern coast. Other localities across Lambayeque also experienced elevated temperatures during the same day, though all remained below the mark set in Pasabar.

High temperatures were reported in several other areas, with Motupe reaching 35.5 degrees Celsius and Jayanca reaching 35 degrees Celsius. Oyotún recorded 34.4 degrees Celsius, Tinajones reached 34 degrees Celsius, Sipán logged 33.7 degrees Celsius, and Cayaltí recorded 33.2 degrees Celsius. Lower readings were taken in Puchaca at 32.2 degrees Celsius, Lambayeque at 30.4 degrees Celsius, and Reque at 27.4 degrees Celsius.
Senamhi stated that the variation among monitoring stations highlighted the thermal diversity across the region. Temperature maps also revealed positive anomalies, showing values above normal averages for this time of year. The agency noted that it had previously issued warnings about high temperatures across the northern coast, where readings reached up to 37 degrees Celsius in recent days.
Precautionary recommendations and potential impacts
Authorities advised ongoing monitoring of weather conditions and recommended preventive actions, particularly for children, older adults, and vulnerable populations. Officials added that extreme temperatures could raise water demand and affect agricultural and livestock operations.
The 37.3 degrees Celsius reading made Pasabar the warmest location in Lambayeque that day. The record confirmed unusual thermal conditions during the 2026 winter season along Peru's northern coast.
