Greek Solution party president Kyriakos Velopoulos has demanded fresh parliamentary elections, calling them the only salvation after alleging a government cover up in Greece's wiretapping scandal.
Velopoulos said judicial authorities investigating the wiretapping case had turned ostensible cover ups and impunity into a science. He added that the imprisonment of guilty officials hiding inside the Maximos Mansion, the official office of the Greek prime minister in Athens, was the only proper option.
Taxation Surplus and Economic Criticism
The party leader also criticized government fiscal policy ahead of the annual Thessaloniki International Fair, where Greek prime ministers traditionally present national economic goals. He accused the prime minister of collecting more than 16 billion euros in primary over-surpluses from 2025 through June 2026, while preparing to distribute only 2 billion euros at the exhibition.
Velopoulos compared the government to a thief who takes everything and then returns a small portion of the stolen goods. He said the government must stop the tax scourge impoverishing Greek citizens, demanding that all funds collected through tax robbery be returned to the public.

In wider political developments, former prime minister Alexis Tsipras declared that his accumulated political experience now gave him a clear understanding of what he wanted to achieve and how to accomplish it.
In regional infrastructure, Attica Governor Nikos Hardalias announced that construction was beginning on new Supported Living Homes for Persons with Disabilities in Ilioupoli, a suburban municipality in Athens.
State figures also highlighted athletic success, as the President of the Republic issued an announcement praising Greek competitors for their achievements at the Under-19 World Rowing Championships and the Under-20 World Athletics Championships.
Commenting on party strategy, Communist Party of Greece leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas stated that his party targeted the real opponent of the working public, defining it as the system of exploitation.
