Kim Kardashian, the American television personality and businesswoman, has been awarded symbolic damages of 1 euro from men convicted over a 2016 robbery in which she was held at gunpoint in a Paris hotel and stripped of jewelry, a lawyer confirmed.
During the robbery, the attackers seized several pieces of jewelry from Kardashian, including her engagement ring, worth 4 million dollars.
Kardashian had testified that she feared she would be killed during the attack. She sought the token one-euro payment from some of the men convicted in May 2025 over the robbery, according to the lawyer representing the hotel receptionist, who was also a plaintiff in the case.
The "grandpa robbers"
The attackers, widely known in France as the "grandpa robbers" because of their age, wore hoods and disguised themselves as police officers to carry out the attack. The robbery at the Paris hotel was described at the time as the biggest in France in 20 years.
Most of the stolen jewelry, including the ring Kardashian's then-husband, rapper Kanye West, had given her, was never recovered. West is now known as Ye.
Symbolic damages in French courts
A payment of a single symbolic euro is a recognized feature of French civil litigation. Plaintiffs sometimes request it to formally establish in court that a wrong was committed against them, even when they are not seeking material compensation.
Payout for hotel receptionist
Unlike Kardashian, the hotel receptionist involved in the case sought real financial compensation. He had claimed 500,000 euros in damages and was awarded approximately 110,000 euros, according to his lawyer.
