Greek television presenters Katerina Karavatou and Christos Ferentinos debuted their new program on ERT1, the flagship channel of Greece's state broadcaster, while police continue investigating the death of popular singer George Mazonakis.
Studio 4 Premiere
Karavatou said on Tuesday afternoon that she was happy and grateful for her television collaboration with Ferentinos. The presenters premiered their program Studio 4 on ERT1 on Monday, September 7. Karavatou noted she enjoyed their moments on air together, adding she had observed herself thinking how nice it was when they spoke on the broadcast.
Ferentinos said he was nervous and searching for his footing during the premiere, but felt much calmer and at home by the second show, adding that calmness is now sought after on television. In March 2026, Ferentinos had described a Jumbo commercial he filmed with Karavatou as simply playing roles in a sketch.
Death of George Mazonakis
Mazonakis, a prominent figure in Greek music, died of a cardiac arrest at the Stem Cell clinic in Kolonaki, an upscale neighbourhood in central Athens.
Doctors Ioanna Gaka and Theodoropoulos were arrested and later released, departing in silence. A prosecutor visited the Kolonaki clinic, and a patient of the doctors said it was difficult to secure an appointment with them.
Police found the singer was undergoing a plasmapheresis treatment when the cardiac arrest occurred. Gaka stated she had proposed the treatment when Mazonakis visited the previous day, and had informed him it had no side effects. Security cameras showed the singer entered the clinic shortly after 13:00, rather than after 16:00 as doctors had claimed. Questions were raised over a doctor's advertisement for the clinic. Doctors from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens explained the conditions and risks of therapeutic plasmapheresis.
Mazonakis intended to write a will but did not have time, meaning his estate will pass to his family. His sisters, Maria and Vaso, were outside ELPIS, a major public hospital in Athens, shortly after his death was announced on September 9. The singer's family is appointing a technical advisor, and an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the cause of death.

Entertainers paid tribute to Mazonakis, who began his career singing Giannis Parios songs at 18 in a school celebration.
He later found success in Patras and recorded hits with Phoebus, Bougas and Goin' Through. The singer's favourite hour involved a specific road, car and song.
Singer Elena Paparizou described him as a unique emperor, and Sakis Rouvas wished him a good journey. Giorgos Kapoutzidis expressed a wish that Mazonakis had loved himself more, while Elli Kokkinou told a concert audience the singer wanted to give love and asked for acceptance and appreciation. Paralympian Giannis Sevdikalis said Mazonakis stood by him in every way after his amputation. Despina Moiraraki shared a farewell video of Mazonakis imitating her.
