The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office sent an indictment against businessman Ihor Kolomoisky to court in a case concerning PrivatBank. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine announced the move on its website. The High Anti-Corruption Court will hear the main criminal case against the businessman.
This indictment marks the fourth episode in the overall investigation into the misappropriation of funds at PrivatBank. It is the first episode in the broader case that names Kolomoisky as a suspect.
PrivatBank bond scheme
Investigators said Kolomoisky forced PrivatBank to pay over 9.2 billion UAH to a controlled offshore company between January and March 2015. At the time of the alleged scheme, he served as the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration. The payment was disguised as the buyback of the bank's own bonds at an inflated price.
To legalize the money, more than 446 million UAH was routed through five related legal entities under the guise of securities transactions. The funds were then transferred to Kolomoisky's personal account. He later deposited those funds into the statutory capital of PrivatBank to satisfy requirements set by the National Bank of Ukraine.
Prosecutors charged Kolomoisky under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine covering property misappropriation, money laundering, and official forgery. Former PrivatBank board chairman Oleksandr Dubilet and four other bank managers are also accused in the case.
Other criminal proceedings
Kolomoisky remains in a pre-trial detention center while facing several separate criminal proceedings. In May 2024, the National Police charged him with organizing a contract murder, which is the legal proceeding under which he stays in custody.
The Bureau of Economic Security finished its own investigation against Kolomoisky in 2024 regarding the fictitious deposit of cash into bank registers. In May 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine also reported exposing him in the fraudulent acquisition of more than 100 million UAH from PrivatBank.
