The annual ceremony recognized scientific accomplishments that first make people laugh and then make them think. Winners at the event received a discontinued ten-trillion-dollar banknote from Zimbabwe as their prize.
The Ig Nobel Prizes are organized by the science humor publication Annals of Improbable Research as a lighthearted alternative to the traditional Nobel Prizes. Organisers invite real Nobel laureates to hand out the awards, celebrating peer-reviewed studies that explore surprising human behaviors and physical phenomena.

Wealth and Unethical Behaviour
A study led by social psychologist Paul Piff at the University of California, Irvine, received recognition for examining whether higher income correlates with unethical behavior. The researchers conducted multiple experiments to evaluate how members of upper-class socio-economic groups interact with others in daily situations.
Field observations showed that drivers of luxury vehicles were significantly more likely to cut off other drivers and fail to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. Laboratory trials also indicated that wealthier participants expressed a greater willingness to lie during employment evaluations.
In one experiment, researchers left subjects alone with a container of sweets labeled as intended for children. Upon returning, the research team found that participants from higher socio-economic backgrounds took nearly double the quantity of candy compared to those from lower-class backgrounds.

Physics of Urinals and the Mechanics of Kissing
The biomechanics award was presented to a team of scientists from the University of Oxford for studying the evolutionary history of kissing. Before conducting their investigation, the researchers established a formal scientific definition detailing what constitutes a kiss.
Researchers from the University of Waterloo in Canada won the physics prize for analyzing splash dynamics in public restrooms. The Canadian team discovered that liquid splashback virtually disappears when a stream hits a ceramic urinal surface at an angle below 30 degrees.
Using these fluid dynamics calculations, the Waterloo team engineered a splash-free urinal shape designed to prevent backscatter regardless of how accurately a user aims.

Retracted Snake Study and Cockroach Milk
A team of Brazilian researchers won recognition for investigating defensive strikes by venomous snakes. Wearing heavy safety boots, the scientists systematically pressed down on different parts of the snakes bodies to measure defensive responses.
The experiment demonstrated that applying direct pressure to a snake head triggered the highest frequency of defensive bites. However, the journal that originally published the paper later retracted the study after determining the team had not obtained required ethical permits for the animal testing.
In chemistry, researchers were awarded for discovering that cockroach milk contains three times as much caloric energy as cow milk. Meanwhile, another team studied parental perception of children body odors, concluding that parents find the scent of babies pleasant but dislike the scent of teenagers.

Other awarded projects included repurposing mosquito proboscises into precision nozzles for 3D printers, analyzing fluid airflow during nose blowing, and burying cotton underwear to evaluate agricultural soil microbial health.
Ecological Control Measures and Dietary Research
The report detailed an invasive species control effort in Illinois, where state authorities poured more than 6,800 liters of the chemical rotenone into a canal. The intervention aimed to prevent Asian carp from migrating into Lake Michigan, though monitoring teams ultimately recovered only a single dead carp specimen.
A separate neurological study analyzed how eating alone affects human brain activity. Researchers mapped distinct neurological patterns that occur when individuals habitually consume meals by themselves compared to eating in social settings.
