At the time of the initial report, neither her representative nor public authorities had disclosed a cause of death or any details about where she passed away.

Memoir and personal struggles

In recent years, Panettiere spoke publicly about several difficult periods in her personal life. Earlier this year, she published her memoirs, titled This Is Me: A Reckoning, detailing her experiences as a child star in Hollywood.

In the book, she opened up about her past struggles with alcohol and substance abuse, as well as her battles with postpartum depression and domestic violence. Her decision to speak openly about these challenges earned her praise for raising awareness of the pressures faced by young performers.

Early career and child stardom

Panettiere was born Hayden Leslie Panettiere on August 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York. She began her career in show business while still an infant, appearing in commercial advertisements before securing her first major television role at the age of four.

In 1994, she made her daytime soap opera debut as Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live. She followed that performance with an extended run as Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light, before earning recurring and guest roles on primetime television shows including Ally McBeal and Malcolm in the Middle.

Her early work on the big screen included a prominent role in the 2000 sports drama Remember the Titans. She later appeared in films such as Joe Somebody, Raising Helen, Ice Princess, and Racing Stripes, and provided voice acting for animated feature films including Pixar's A Bug's Life and Disney's Dinosaur.

Breakout roles in Heroes and Nashville

Panettiere achieved major recognition among teenage audiences in 2006 when she starred as cheerleader Britney Allen in Bring It On: All or Nothing. That same year, she landed what became her career-defining television role as Claire Bennet in the NBC drama series Heroes.

Playing a high school cheerleader endowed with supernatural cellular regeneration powers, Panettiere became a global television icon as the series gained a massive international audience during its multi-season run.

She scored another major television success starting in 2012 when she took on the role of Juliette Barnes in the country music drama series Nashville. Portraying a rising young country star, Panettiere performed her own songs on the show, earning critical acclaim and two Golden Globe nominations for her performance.

Film credits and video game work

Alongside her television career, Panettiere remained a prominent figure in cinema. In 2011, she joined the long-running horror franchise Scream, playing film buff Kirby Reed in Scream 4. She later returned to the role in the 2023 sequel Scream VI.

Her film credits also include roles in the romantic comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper, the drama Shanghai Kiss, the ensemble drama Fireflies in the Garden, and the legal drama Custody.

Beyond traditional screen acting, Panettiere contributed voice acting and performance capture to major video game titles. She voiced the character Kairi in the long-running Kingdom Hearts franchise and starred as Sam in the interactive horror game Until Dawn.
