Guayaquil registered 55,365 vehicle departures through the Chongón toll booth between Friday, August 7, and 4:00 p.m. Sunday, according to the Ecuador Transit Commission (CTE). The traffic count covers vehicles leaving the city for the First Cry of Independence national holiday, which ends on Monday with its third and final day.
The CTE also recorded 34,542 returning vehicles at the Chongón toll booth. The agency said the figure shows that some travelers began returning to the city ahead of the holiday's final day. All eight booths at the Chongón toll have remained open since Friday, with transit controls active along the route and at city exit points.
Highway Traffic and Deployment
CTE records tracking traffic toward coastal destinations showed 19,160 outgoing vehicles and 14,066 returning vehicles at the Playas toll booth. The Olmedo toll booth, which serves as an entry point to Santa Elena, registered 32,378 outgoing vehicles and 17,821 returning vehicles during the same period.
To manage holiday operations nationwide, the CTE deployed 5,103 agents and 450 operational units. Personnel remain stationed along highways, toll booths, and land terminals across the country.
